The School of Human and Movement Sciences of the University of Verona has been ranked among the best 4 Schools of Sport Sciences in the world by the Academic Ranking of World Universities.
Our laboratory is equipped with VICON Motion Camera system, 2 force plates, 32 channels wireless EMG, accelerometers, load cells, TMS, metabolimeter, isokinetic dynamometers and ultrasound apparatus.
Highly qualified laboratories in neuroimaging, cognitive neuroscience and exercise physiology are also located within the Department, with possibilities for interdisciplinary collaborations. Moreover, the laboratory is currently collaborating with national and international universities and research institutions.
POSITION DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES
We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student interested in human muscle function in healthy (young and older adults) and pathological situations (e.g, sarcopenia) to join our department.
The position will be fully funded for three years.
The PhD position is associated with a research project entitled: "Alterations in muscle-tendon biomechanics induced by ageing and sarcopenia: implications for functional decline and potential intervention strategies".
The project aims to characterise the biomechanical alterations of the muscle-tendon unit associated with ageing and sarcopenia and to understand their role in driving the decline in functional capacity (during contraction and locomotion). Telemedicine-based training protocols will then be used to gain further insight into the adaptive capacity of sarcopenic patients. The findings will contribute to the identification of biomechanical biomarkers and the development of targeted intervention strategies to preserve muscle function and promote healthy ageing.
Required Qualifications
- European Passport
- Applicants should be highly motivated and have an MSc degree in biomechanics, biomedical (or mechanical) engineering, sport & exercise sciences, or a related field.
- Strong technical skills in data processing and analysis using software packages like MATLAB are highly desirable.
- Good English skills (writing and speaking) are required (THE ITALIAN LANGUAGE IS NOT MANDATORY AND NOT REQUIRED)
