I’m hiring a postdoc to work with me in the Connected Health Lab at Wake Forest University School of Medicine!
Our main focus is exploring how movement can serve as a biomarker of health and how to measure it as simply as taking a smartphone video. We’re creating smartphone-based assessments that combine biomechanics, AI, and computer vision to measure mobility, physical function, and musculoskeletal health. The aim is to make these assessments practical in everyday healthcare and at home, map them to clinically relevant outcomes, and pair them with other digital technologies, such as wearables, so we can monitor health and intervene when, where, and for whom it matters.
I’m seeking someone with strong expertise in AI/machine learning, computer vision, programming, statistics, biomechanics, and scientific writing. This role offers opportunities to develop and validate methods, publish research, and implement these tools in clinical and home settings, including integration with electronic health records. Key responsibilities include designing thoughtful studies, analyzing complex data, leading manuscript writing, and securing grant funding. This work brings together collaborators across the Center for Remote Health Monitoring, biomedical engineering, physical medicine and rehabilitation, primary care, the Musculoskeletal Institute, implementation science, health and exercise science, social science, health policy, and more.
An exciting part of this work is integrating it within Advocate Health, which serves nearly 6 million patients. This provides a fantastic chance to work closely with clinical partners and develop scalable solutions. Being based in Charlotte, near The Pearl's expanding health tech community, makes this an exciting place to grow. I’m looking for someone who brings curiosity, rigor, kindness, and a collaborative spirit, and who wants to shape this research while developing their own ideas.
If this sounds like you, please apply at the link below! And if someone comes to mind, please share this with them.

P.S. I’m also planning to recruit 1–2 biomedical engineering PhD students for fall 2027! If you’re interested in these research directions and working with me, please apply to the Wake Forest School of Medicine Biomedical Engineering PhD program.
