  • Spatiotemporal clinical gait analysis - pressure mats

    Hi all

Our lab currently uses the GaitMat II system for the collection of spatiotemporal clinical gait analysis data (e.g. gait speed, step/stride length, step/stride rate, single and double support time etc) for older adult populations. Unfortunately the developers of this system have recently retired and the software only operates on 32-bit computer systems, which is is becoming a problemas all our new computers operate 64-bit systems.

We are therefore interested in purchasing a new pressure mat system that could be used for similar data collection and analysis. We have done some preliminary internet searches and have come across the GaitRite and Tekscan pressure mat systems.

For those using the GaitRite or Tekscan systems, could you please provide your opinions on the system that you use and if you would buy the same system again? If you are you aware of any other systems that would provide similar outputs, we would also appreciate your thoughts.

    Thanks Justin

    Hi,

We have the tekscan system in our lab at the University of Bedfordshire. If a replacement was required, I would certainly get the same equipment. The hardware is very reliable and the software is very intuitive.

Thanks Dan, what model did you purchase and what is the primary population group use it with?
      Thanks Justin

        Hello Justin,
I invite you to consider also BTS P WALK a modular pressure mat for the analysis of the gait spatial and temporal parameters.
The main advantage of the system is the modularity. Instead of having a mat that when rolled up can bring to sensors damages the BTS P WALK is made of several tiles which connect together to provide a sensorized surface.
The very high density of sensors and the very modern SW interface place BTS P-WALk in the position to be a great alternative to the above mentioned systems.
please check our website for additional information. BTS Bioengineering have been manufacturing and selling systems dedicated to movement and walk analysis since 1986. The company's core business is 3D motion capture including optoelectronic cameras , force plates and wireless EMG. The pressure mat was just a natural expansion of our portfolio.

We are available to schedule an online demo so that you can get a better idea on how the system works and which additional parameters the SW calculates.

          Hello everyone,

Please note also the product OpenGo sensor insole of Moticon.de
This one can be used inside the shoe and give real-time data. The software is really intuitive and the hole package is relatively cheap.

          Best Regards

We had a demo from optojump recently and were quite impressed. If only spatiotemporal data is needed then this is simple to use, accurate and portable

Re: Spatiotemporal clinical gait analysis - pressure mats

Thanks very much for everyone's feedback on potential pressure mat and shoe systems. Unfortunately at this stage, we have decided to wait a little bit longer for making a decision, or some of this reflecting budgetary constraints.

                Hello everyone,

If you are interested in spatiotemporal gait parameters please also have a look at Gait Up's inertial sensor based system. It consists of two inertial sensors attached to the feet and gives accurate results for 25 spatiotemporal gait parameters in a few minutes including clearance parameters which cannot be obtained with a pressure mat. In addition you don't need a dedicated laboratory space, as the system is portable and the gait test can be performed on any flat ground (corridor or outside or ...). The system has been scientifically validated for several groups of patients including older adults.

Have a look at the website (http://www.gaitup.com) and don't hesitate to contact us !

                Best regards,
                Rebekka
