  • Broken Vicon 612 Data Station

    Hello All,

Unfortunately, my Vicon 612 data station is no longer functional and Vicon no longer support the system. Furthermore, a new Vicon system is not compatible with our cameras. The 612 Data Station (as well as the cameras) can power on, but the data station display goes to a single flashing square and the system never initializes. Our Biomed Department feels that the main board or SD card is corrupt.

Does anyone have any experience with this problem or have any potential solutions? Does anyone have a 612 data station they are no longer using that we can purchase?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Respectfully,

    I wish you good luck,
however, in case you don’t find a solution I'm interested in the cameras.

Re: Broken Vicon 612 Data Station

      Hi Jason,

We had the same problems a few months ago.
Probably the datastation lost its settings due to an empty cmos battery which is powering the bios chips.
In our case the IP address was lost. It should be similar to the IP of the network card in the computer you run the system from. You typically have an extra network card in the Computer. Go to the network setting and look for the settings of this card. Ours has the IP 10.0.0.11 and the subnet is 255.255.255.0. See the screenshot of our workstation when it was freezing. It changed the IP to 194.207 …
To change the settings at the workstation you need to hook up a VGA monitor to the datastation while it is booting. During the boot process you have to interrupt the boot process by pressing a specific key, can’t remember right now which one but you see a message right at the beginning of the boot process (might be F12 or Delete). You are entering the bios setup. You have to enter the IP address there or adjust it to your specific IP. I also think you have to change the boot device to the CF Card slot. I can’t remember if there were any additional adjustments necessary. But I could send you some screenshots of our settings. After adjustments you leave the Bios setup and save the changes. The system should boot.
However the system will not save the settings permanent. We just let it run since we had measurements almost every day. On the long run you have to change the CMOS battery which is soldered to the main board. It is a green cylinder, about 1.5cm long and 0.8cm in diameter and looks like a capacitor. You have to find somebody to replace it. We found an engineer who is handy with the soldering iron. I think it was a 1.5V battery. Just for testing you can also clamp an AA battery on the leads of the CMOS battery.

      I hope this helps!

      Kind regards

      Daniel

PS: In case this won’t help we also might be interested in a few cameras, just as spares ;-)

        Hi Daniel,

I've got a similar issue. I'm trying to get an old Vicon 612 working again and, working through your solutions, I have managed to get it to boot past the blue screen you have posted. Thank you a lot for the info you have provided!
However, I have not managed to network it correctly with the workstation PC and change the IP address. I'm not sure where to input the IP address on the the Vicon system.

        Some pictures of my system:
The load screen looks exactly like yours - it has booted the factory settings and reset the IP address.
https://dl2.pushbulletusercontent.co...422_101637.jpg -> the screen straight after the boot screen
        https://dl2.pushbulletusercontent.co...422_102207.jpg -> booted system
        https://dl2.pushbulletusercontent.co...422_100241.jpg -> vicon dispay

        Any help is greatly appreciated.
        Many thanks in advance,
        Kalp

Re: Broken Vicon 612 Data Station

          Hi Kalp,

the Datastation has fully booted in your case. YEAH!
It is waiting for a connection to the host computer. Please set the host computer network card to the default IP of the Datastation. In your case 192.168.0.10. The host computers network card and the Datastation should be connected with a crossed wired RJ 45 Ethernet patch cable. A normal patch cable won't work. In Workstation you should click on the Option “Start Link” after all is set and the connection should be there. The subnet has to be also set, try 255.255.255.0. . If you want to change default settings for the IP and subnet of the Datastation you have to do this in the Bios Settings of the Datastation. As I wrote earlier, you have to interrupt the booting of Datastation to enter it's Bios Settings, just like a normal computer. Read fast at the beginning of booting which key you have to press to entre bios setup.

          I hope I could help!

          Kind regards

          Daniel

            Hi Daniel,

Thank you very much for replying. I have now managed to network the Datastation to the Workstation PC software with the help you have given so far.
However, I didn't have to change the IP in the bios as I couldn't find the setting within the bios where it allowed you to do that. I might have networked it wrong as the loading screen still shows the following two errors:
https://dl2.pushbulletusercontent.co...429_141315.jpg i.e. "Attaching network interface fei0...failed: error = 0xc0002." and "dosFcDevInit failed". Searching the internet for dosFsDevInit error I have found out that it is to do with the VxWroks not being able to load the boot file.

I was wondering if you experienced any of these problems in your system? Or guide me in the correct direction if possible?

            Kind regards,
            Kalp

              Hi Kalp,

sorry for the late reply. I just made a few pictures recently which may help you to set up the system. You may have to entre the BIOS of the DATASTATTION by pressing the delete key. By the way I might forgot to tell you that you have to connect a VGA monitor and a PS/2 Keyboard to the Datastation to do so.
The error message seems to be related to the boot device, but I'm not absolutely sure. The IP have to be set according to the pictures but I'm not sure if these are default values.
You'll find the pictures here (The Link will only be temporal)

              Good Luck!

                Hi Daniel,

Thank you soo much for your reply and help. I reset the system to factory settings and applied the settings you had put up. Unfortunately, before I could even get to the load screen I seem to be getting a new error - https://dl2.pushbulletusercontent.co...623_102748.jpg
I think I'm gonna pass on reviving this system as I think the load disk is failing to load because it is corrupted.

                Kind regards,
                Kalp

                  Hey all,

We were cleaning out some old storage and came across our old Vicon 612 Datastation. We have not used it in years and no longer have the cameras that go with it, so I have no idea if it really works. All I can say is that it turns on when I plug it in!

If anybody is still in need of this equipment for their older system let me know ASAP and we can try to figure something out before we dispose of it.
