  • Analysing medio-lateral control of the knee joint during single-leg landing

    Hi All,

I am looking for various ways to analyse medio-lateral control (stability) of the knee joint during single-leg landing following a hop. There is a method suggested by Roos et al. (2014). I would appreciate hearing some suggestions, on this, from the members of this group.

Roos PE, Button K, Sparkes V, van Deursen RWM. Altered biomechanical strategies and medio-lateral control of the knee represent incomplete recovery of individuals with injury during single leg hop. Journal of Biomechanics. 2014;47(3):675-80.

    Thanks,
    Ashok

Re: Analysing medio-lateral control of the knee joint during single-leg landing

    Greetings,
I suggest decomposing the knee joint system into a more simple form drawing comparisons between the cartilaginous surfaces and springs. In this way you may look the sesamoid structure as a solid mass surrounded by a series of springs upon which difference forces are acting depending on the source of perturbation, although this alternative may only be useful if you wish to only analyze the restitution response of the cartilage during the landing. For the bending instances of the leg and forefoot, I suggest a simple physics simulating software (Bender for example), it should show the behavior of the torque over the selected joint.
