Many thanks to all of the speakers and attendees for making the 6th Symposium of Motor Control in Biomechanics a success. The symposium was held on Tuesday and Wednesday July 25th-26th 2017 during the XXVI Congress of the International Society of Biomechanics (ISB) in Brisbane, Australia. The symposium featured internationally distinguished researchers, oral and poster presentations from abstract submissions (see flyer for details).
Invited Speakers
Dr. Glen Lichtwark (University of Queensland, Australia) “The potential influence of tendon compliance on sensory feedback from lower limb muscles”
Dr. Martina Mancini (Oregon Health and Science University, USA) “Insights into freezing of gait from wearable sensors”
Dr. John H. Challis (Pennsylvania State University, USA) “Individual muscle forces and musculo-skeletal models of human movement”
Dr. Fuminari Kaneko (Sapporo Medical University, Japan) “Exposure to a unique visual stimulus with kinesthetic sensation results in synchronized reciprocally induced spontaneous muscular recruitment”
Carlo J. De Luca Memorial Session
A special memorial session to honor the lifelong contributions of Professor Carlo J. De Luca, founder of the Motor Control Group, to the fields of Motor Control, Biomechanics, and Human Movement Sciences closed the symposium. The session included contributions from Dr. William Z. Rymer (Shirley Ryan Ability Lab, USA), Dr. Serge Roy (Delsys Inc. & Boston University, USA), and Dr. Roberto Merletti (Politecnico di Torino, Italy).
1st Motor Control Group Student Award
Congratulations to Miss Gwenllian F. Tawy, doctoral student in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow (UK), who was awarded the 2017 Motor Control Group Student Award for her abstract submission titled: “Investigating gait variability and motor control in knee osteoarthritis”. This is the first edition of the Motor Control Group Student Award sponsored by ISB. The 500 US $ award aims at encouraging the participation of students and young investigators in Motor Control research.

The next symposia on Motor Control in Biomechanics are currently being planned for the 2018 WCB Congress (Dublin, Ireland, 8th-12th July 2018) and the 2018 ACSM Congress (Minneapolis, USA, May 29th-June 2nd 2018).
