  • Upcoming Symposium on Motor Control in Biomechanics at ISB 2021

We would like to remind you that the 12th SYMPOSIUM ON MOTOR CONTROL IN BIOMECHANICS will be held during the upcoming Congress of the International Society of Biomechanics (ISB) on July 25th-29th, 2021. See flyer here.

Date and Time: Five sessions on motor control on July 26th-29th. For the full schedule see: https://isb2021.com/program/

    Invited Speakers:
Dr. Gelsy Torres-Oviedo, The University of Pittsburg (USA)
Dr. Mark L. Latash, Pennsylvania State University (USA)
Invited talks will be followed by oral presentations. Program includes 5 oral sessions:
    • Motor Control in Impaired Populations
    • Motor Control in Sport
    • Upper Limb Motor Control
    • Motor Control in Gait
    • Motor Control

    Special Debate Session:
The Distribution Problem in Biomechanics and Motor Control: How can we measure, predict and validate in vivo muscle forces?
    Date and Time: 13:45 – 14:45 Monday July 26th, 2021
    Speakers:
    • Ton van den Bogert, Cleveland State University (USA)
    • Friedl de Groote, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium)
    • Walter Herzog, University of Calgary (Canada)
    Moderator:
    • Lanie Gutierrez-Farewik, KTH MoveAbility Lab (Sweden)

Who Should Attend: Researchers and students with an interest in Biomechanics and Motor Control should attend. Participants will have the opportunity to discover the latest developments at the intersection of these two fields and discuss with experienced investigators.

Registration and Fee: Attendance is free to all ISB Congress participants.

We look forward to seeing you at ISB 2021!

    Sincerely,
ISB Working Group in Motor Control

Many thanks to the speakers and attendees for making the 12th Symposium of Motor Control in Biomechanics a success. The symposium was held July 25th-29th, 2021 in conjunction with the 2021 Congress of the International Society of Biomechanics (ISB) (see flyer for details).
The symposium included 5 oral sessions on Motor Control in Impaired Populations, Motor Control in Sport, Upper Extremity Motor Control, Motor Control in Gait, and Motor Control.

    Invited Talks:
    • Dr. Gelsy Torres-Oviedo, The University of Pittsburg, USA. Characterizing subject-specific adaptation of motor outputs and sensory inputs in locomotion.
    • Dr. Mark L. Latash, Pennsylvania State University, USA. Synergic control of individual muscles and agonist-antagonist muscle pairs.
and a Special Debate Session on “Determining synergistic muscular force sharing”
    • Dr. Ton van den Bogert, Cleveland State University, USA
    • Dr. Friedl De Groote, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium
    • Dr. Walter Herzog, University of Calgary, Canada
3rd Motor Control Group Student Award
We would like to extend a special thank-you to ISB for providing the 3rd Motor Control Group Student Awards in the amount of $250 USD/each for two students to participate and present in the symposium, and congratulations to the winners:
Ms. Lea-Fedia Rissmann, Master's student in the Sport & Exercise Science for Health and Performance program at the Ruhr-University Bochum (Germany) for her work titled “Corticospinal excitability during and after stretch-shortening cycle contractions compared with pure shortening contractions”, and
Mr. Matthew Slopecki, Ph.D. student in the Biomechanics of Occupation and Sport Laboratory, in the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education at McGill University (Canada), for his works titled: “Uncontrolled manifold analysis of effects of different fatigue locations on coordination during a repetitive pointing task”.
This is the third edition of the Motor Control Group Student Award sponsored by ISB, which aims at encouraging the participation of students and young investigators in Motor Control research.

Our next symposium will be held on September 17th, 17:00 pm – 20:00 pm GMT-3 in conjunction with the XIX Congress of the Brazilian Society of Biomechanics (CBB), the IX Neuromechanics Symposium, and the III Latin-American Meeting of Biomechanics.

Check our website for all news and event updates.

    Sincerely,
ISB Technical Group in Motor Control
