Rafael Raya
Rafael Raya, PhD, is currently Associate Professor at the Department of Information Technologies and Researcher at the Bioengineering Laboratory, Universidad CEU San Pablo. He collaborates with the Neural and Cognitive Engineering Group of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC, Spain). His research activity is mainly focused on Assistive Technology for people with Cerebral Palsy. His research lines are rehabilitation robotics and human-machines interfaces for people with neuromotor disorders.
He received the PhD degree in 2011 and a M.S. degree in 2008 from the University of Alcalá (Spain). He received an Electronic and Automatic Engineering degree in 2006 from the University of Córdoba (Spain). He was a postdoc fellow at the Harvard Medical School in Boston (USA) and MOVE Institute (Vrije Amsterdam Universiteit). He is the technical coordinator of the AITADIS (Iberoamerican Association for Assistive Technology). He is author/co-author of more than 40 publications including international journals and conferences and he is reviewer of several international journals. His research activity is focused on assistive devices for people with Cerebral Palsy. Dr. Raya has actively participated in a number of National, European and International RTD projects. The Spanish Committee for Automation has recently awarded him with the Award Best Spanish PhD Thesis in Robotics 2011. He received the MIT Technology Review Award (Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 2013). He is CEO and co-founder of Werium Assistive Solutions (2015), spin-off of the Group of Neural and Cognitive Engineering (GNEC) of CSIC. Recently, he received the Caixa Impulse Award for the Werium AS idea.
