LAB DESCRIPTION:
Since 1977 we have been studying swallowing,
speech, and voice physiology in healthy individuals
as well as patients of diverse medical backgrounds,
using imaging techniques such as ultrasonography,
videofluorography, and MRI. At present, we are
conducting pioneering research on various new
applications of ultrasound and MR imaging (e.g.,
3D reconstruction of tongue, oropharyngeal
kinematics, 3D imaging of lingual and neck tumors,
abnormal muscles of oropharynx and extremities).
In addition, we are studying motor control and
strategies for sequential versus discrete swallowing
behaviors via videofluorography in normal and
disordered populations, as a part of a long-term
plan to establish normative standards for clinical
management of patients with swallowing disorders.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
To provide programming expertise, design/modify
research instruments, operate instruments and
participate in clinical & research procedures,
conduct image processing/analysis, maintain
research database, perform equipment
calibrations/testing/repair/maintenance, etc.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering
or other engineering subspecialties;
programming experiences with LabVIEW,
Matlab, C++, or OpenGL.

REMARKS:
Requires U.S. citizenship, permanent residency,
or work permit.
