Position: Biomechanics/Athletic Training
Contractual Period: 9 month basis

Qualifications:

1. Earned doctorate (or ABD) in Kinesiology or a closely related
discipline with an emphasis in Biomechanics
2. NATABOC Certification and experience
3. Teaching experience in higher education
4. Active research record related to Biomechanics and Athletic
Training (e.g., injury etiology &/or mechanisms)
5. Demonstrated commitment to related scholarly/professional
organizations
6. Extramural funding experience desirable
7. Post doc experience desirable

Responsibilities:

1. Instruct, direct, and advise undergraduate and graduate students in
areas of Biomechanics and Athletic Training.
2. Develop and maintain an active research program; seek extramural
funding.
3. Engage in university and scholarly/professional service
activities.

Overview:

UWM is an urban research university and one of two doctoral
degree-granting institutions in the University of Wisconsin System. The
Department of Human Kinetics offers BS and MS degrees. The BS
Kinesiology Program provides academic and professional preparation for
students entering the field of Athletic Training, Exercise and Fitness,
Health & Fitness Management, and academic preparation for those
intending to pursue advanced study in the health professions (pre-PT) or
human movement research (MS, PhD). A multidisciplinary human movement
science MS degree is offered to students who include, among others,
practicing allied health professionals (ATC, OT, PT, RN) and educators.
Departmental instructional/research facilities include Athletic
Training, Biomechanics, Motor Control/Learning, Psychology, Sociology,
and two Exercise Physiology Laboratories. There are thirteen full-time
faculty and academic staff in the department.

The Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) is offered by the
Department of Human Kinetics in cooperation with the Athletics
Department and Norris Health Center. The ATEP is currently seeking
CAAHEP accreditation and has applied for Candidacy Status with the
JRC-AT. The staff of 7 ATCs includes a physical therapist and a
strength and conditioning coach. All provide AT services and contribute
to instruction. UWM fields 15 NCAA Div. I sports teams including
approximately 270 student-athletes. The athletic training staff also
serves the general student population through the Norris Health Center.

This appointment is designed to allow the successful candidate to:
1. Instruct in an interdisciplinary curriculum that integrates
movement science research to prepare future athletic trainers, exercise
and fitness leaders, and other health professionals
2. Provide academic instruction and professional guidance to a diverse
population of students on a 90-acre urban campus located within 4 blocks
of Lake Michigan
3. Join a team of doctorally trained human movement scientists working
in state-of-the-art laboratory facilities equipped with isokinetic
dynamometers, EMG instrumentation, force platforms, and real-time motion
analysis.
4. Function in a workload model that promotes and supports faculty
research activities
5. Conduct research that will make meaningful contributions to the
body of scientific knowledge that informs the clinical practices of an
athletic trainer
6. Collaborate with colleagues located at universities, medical
centers, and private industry in the Milwaukee metropolitan area
