List,

A student has inquired about resultant forces acting on the body and ski
during slalom water skiing. Water skis are apparently fitted with some type
of fin that is adjustable, leading to better stability during turning. The
student is interested in designing a moderation to the ski but has not been
able to locate much in the literature.

Has any research been done in this area?
How could you go about calculating these forces and resultant vectors from
the ski, water, speed of boat,
internal forces, line tension, ski angle, depth of fin, etc., without
having to 'get wet'?

Thank you for your anticipated response,

Erik
