Dear List Subscribers,

I am a graduate student at Arizona State University, USA, my thesis is focused
on the transition from the glide phase to free swimming following a freestyle
flipturn. A hypothesis of opinion has been presented in some of the literature
that infers that additional drag is generated by the swimmer if he or she
starts out on his or her back or side and then rotates to a prone position
while streamlining than by streamlining alone without any rotation. Does
anyone know of any articles or studies in hydro or fluid dynamics that support
this hypothesis?
