subject: PhD opportunity in orthopaedics and tissue analysis

Expressions of interest are invited from students interested in pursuing doctoral studies in biomechanics and tissue analysis. A PhD opportunity exists, commencing mid 2008, at the University of Sydney, within the Exercise, Health and Performance Research Group, in collaboration with Sydney Orthopaedic Research Institute.

This study will examine changes which occur after high tibial osteotomy a) in gait using standard gait analysis techniques b) in the quality and volume of cartilage, both with and without autologous cartilage implantation, and measured using magnetic resonance imaging techniques. The project will require data collection both at the University of Sydney Gait Laboratory on the Cumberland campus and at Royal North Shore Hospital where the University of Sydney's Institute of Magnetic Resonance Research and research MRI is located

An undergraduate degree in engineering or health sciences is required and experience with gait analysis is desirable.
