The Position: The College of Education and Health Professions at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville invites nominations and applications for a tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Exercise Science in the Department of Health, Human Performance, and Recreation.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

1)Establish a research agenda capable of securing external funding
2)Teach graduate and undergraduate classes in Exercise Science
3)Supervise theses, dissertations, and honors projects
4)Mentor/advise both undergraduate and graduate students
5)Provide service to the department, college, university, community, and profession

Required Qualifications:
1)Earned doctorate from an accredited institution in Exercise Science or closely related field conferred by the start of employment
2)Evidence of refereed publications and presentations
3)Evidence of effective teaching

Preferred Qualifications:

1)Post-doctoral or related experience
2)Potential to secure external funding
3)Teaching experience at the collegiate level

Appointment and Salary: This is a 9-month, tenure-track position at the assistant professor rank. The salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience and background. The anticipated starting date is August 19, 2019.

The Program: The Exercise Science program has a strong reputation for having quality students, high standards, and a student-centered faculty. The faculty in the Exercise Science Program are committed to providing experiential opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students, including research mentoring and interdisciplinary collaborations in the Exercise Science Research Center. Exercise Science is one of the fastest growing programs on the campus and is one of the largest majors with approximately 762 undergraduates and 93 graduate students (M.A.T., M.S., Ph.D.). Our students represent a diverse background with academic interests in exercise physiology, biomechanics, athletic training and many pre-professional programs. The Exercise Science faculty has successfully collaborated with faculty in Nursing, Biological Science, Animal Science, Food Science, Biomedical Engineering, Psychology, Computer Science, Poultry Science, Anthropology, and Environmental Life Sciences. The Exercise Science Research Center (ESRC): Located in the Department of Health, Human Performance, and Recreation, the ESRC provides ~7,000 sq. ft. of research space for high-level research. Current areas of research interest include the following: thermoregulation, body composition, muscle function (in vitro and in vivo), biomechanics, cardiovascular, and biochemical. Housed within the ESRC is the equipment necessary to perform this research. Some of the major equipment includes DXA, underwater weighing, Biodex (isokinetic dynamometer; Balance System), Qualysis Motion Capture system, force platforms (Kistler and Bertec), wireless electromyography (Delsys and Noraxon), Doppler ultrasound, ParvoMedics metabolic carts, Omega temperature assessment, PowerLab, Velotron electronically braked ergometers, Quinton Q-Stress treadmill system, iStat, osmometers, skin blood flow, CoreTemp monitoring system, Tango Blood pressure, GE ultrasound, rapid cuff inflator, glucose/lactate analyzer, plate reader, Li-COR Odyssey Fc blot imager, PCR and real-time PCR machines, Nikon TiS Inverted Epiflurorescent microscope, Tissue Culture Hood and Incubator, IonOptix Cell Stimulator, Aurora Scientific In Vivo Muscle Test System, Schuler Organ Bath, and freezers (low and ultra-low temperature). In addition to conducting research, the ESRC coordinates laboratory teaching opportunities and service programs for the University and surrounding Northwest Arkansas region. The Department: The Department of Health, Human Performance, and Recreation is one of five academic units in the college. The department offers fully accredited undergraduate (B.S) and graduate degree programs (M.Ed., M.S., Ph.D.) with over 1,600 students, 30 graduate assistants, and 29 full-time faculty members.
