Assistant or Associate Professor Position
Department of Kinesiology and Health Science

Position Summary
The Department of Kinesiology and Health Science (KHS) at Utah State University invites applicants for a tenure-track, nine-month academic year position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level (depending on qualifications) beginning in August 2019. We are seeking individuals with research interests in biomechanics, neuromechanics, sport/injury biomechanics, muscle biomechanics, or wearable technology as it relates to postural control, human motion and physiology. Expectations for this position include the maintenance of a focused and scholarly line of funded research, and teaching undergraduate and / or graduate courses in the candidate's area of expertise. Review of applicants will begin January 2019 and will continue until the position is filled.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Conduct and publish research in area of expertise; start-up support is provided. Competitive internal university grant funds are also available.
  • Pursue external funding for research.
  • Teach one to two kinesiology courses (e.g., biomechanics) per semester. Course releases are negotiable with external funding.
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Serve on and chair graduate student research committees.
  • Provide service to university, community, state, and profession.

Minimum Qualifications:
ASSISTANT PROFESSOR RANK:

  • Earned doctorate in Kinesiology or a closely related field prior to the date of appointment (August 2019).
  • Evidence of the ability to develop a research program that can be supported by external funding.
  • Evidence of the ability to be an effective teacher and mentor.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to collaboration and collegiality among peers and constituents.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications:
ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR RANK:

  • Earned doctorate in Kinesiology or a closely related field.
  • Established program of research as evidenced by a consistent record of peer reviewed publications during the preceding six years.
  • Evidence of success in obtaining extramural funding.
  • Evidence of demonstrated teaching effectiveness (e.g., student course evaluations).
  • Evidence of quality service to the profession.

Preferred Qualifications Regardless of Rank:

  • Post-doctoral research experience and a history of obtaining extramural funding.
  • A consistent publication record.
  • Previous university experience with positive teaching evaluations.
  • Preference will be given to candidates that have a strong background or expertise in clinical settings and/or populations.
