POSTGRADUATE RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP

The Department of Safety Science, in the Faculty of Applied Science, is
offering a postgraduate research scholarship for a suitably qualified
candidate to undertake a PhD. degree in an area of trauma biomechanics. The
Federal Office of Road Safety (FORS) is funding the scholarship through the
Department. Support is available from the beginning of the 1996 Academic year.

The Department conducts biomechanics research with a current focus on motor
vehicle trauma. Other areas of biomechanics research undertaken in the
Department include gait and rehabilitation. The research project will be in
an area of head and neck trauma and the will be developed with the
successful applicant. Research will involve experimentation and/or
numerical modelling.

Applicants should have, or be completing in 1995, a Bachelors Degree with at
least Honours Class 2 Division 1 in a field of study relevant to
biomechanics. Applicants with equivalent qualifications will be considered.
The applicant should be an Australian citizen or permanent resident. The
successful candidate will be enrolled in the Department and will be jointly
supervised by an employee of FORS.
