Dear subscribers,

I would like to remind you that Biomch-L postings should be text-only, so
please no attached files. If you have word processor files, export the
file as text-only. Also, text files should preferably be mailed by including
them in the message itself, rather than as an attachment. This can be done
using the COPY and PASTE functions of your computer, if all else fails.
Experiment with this by sending mail to yourself, before posting.

Also please avoid sending E-mail in HTML format.

If you wish to distribute anything other than text, please send a text-only
announcement to Biomch-L with instructions on how to get the material.
You could:
- E-mail the material to individuals who request it
- Post it on your web or FTP server
- Post it on the ISB web server:

These guidelines are included in the Biomch-L Guide which can be retrieved
from ,

Of course, this policy may always be changed if there is a consensus among
subscribers. So please give me some feedback if you feel strongly about this
issue. Some reasons for this policy are:

- Attachments usually require special software (MSWord is *not* a standard!).
- Attachments may increase the size of postings dramatically and there is a
risk that this overloads a subscriber's system resources (mailbox quota).
- Attachments cannot be found in the archives using keyword search.
- It is hard to quote attachments in a reply.

I know that many of you are very annoyed when receiving file attachments,
and I appreciate your help reminding others of this policy. But *please*
be polite when complaining to the originator of a posting. Such mistakes
are not made intentionally, and your complaint is probably one of many.
